The world's Biggest Bowl-Carrying Image

The world's Biggest Bowl-Carrying Image

The temple was named after Chao In, an uncle of Chao Noi, a consort of Rama I. The temple is famous for its huge bowl-carrying image facing east, which stands 32 meters tall and 11 meters wide, considered the world's biggest of it's kind.

The building began in 1867 by the 80-year-old Somdet Phra Phutthachan (To Phromrangsi). The revered monk passed away during its construction which last 60 years. In 1978, HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn came to install in its topknot Buddha's bone relics, a gift from Sri Lanka . Later the image was covered with 24-k gold mosaics from Italy as it now appears.

The Temple holds an annual homage festival for the image from March the 1 st to 10 th , a much-awaited temple fair in Bangkok .
