The Mon Temple and Community along Khlong Bang Kradi

An ethnic group very keen on preserving their tradition sre the Mon descendents at Bang Kradi. The Mon temple at Bang Kradi was built in late-Rama lV’s reign.

The presiding image is in the early-Rattanakosin Period Other artifacts include a standing image in Mon style carved from one whole log. A bell-shaped pagoda in the temple is also in Mon style. A hemsa pillar stands to addition to these artistic features, people in the community still use the Mon dialect and still observe several ghost-hom-age traditions. On the traditional Thai New Year (Songkran in mid-April), there is a homage ceremony for Bang Kradi spirits at the village ground, with the traditional fun game of saba at night.

Bang Kradi also possesses a folk museum in the compound of the monda Family. This is a small musical instruments, scriptures in the Mon language, and some terra-cotta pottery pieces unearthed from the riverbank.
