This Ayutthaya temple was formerly known
as Wat Chesua Hong. Later Queen Suriyenthramat, Ramas III
and IV, and King Pin Klao, jointly commissioned its renovation.
The most interesting artifact in the temple is an ancient
Buddha image An image hall once stood behind the congregation
hall. It was too run-down to be restored. The temple thus
left it in ruins and covered with overgrown. Inside the hall
sat an image. The temple cracked down the outer plaster cover
to find inside an alloy image of the Sukhonthai Period with
superb traditional characteristics. It was thus ‘invited’
from the old hall in 1956 to be enshrined in the new congregation
hall. |
